Jonathan Alexandratos is a New York City-based playwright. His first play, Death in Mozambique, was produced at the Cherry Lane Theatre in 2009. Soon after, Jonathan began work on his M.F.A. in Playwrighting at Queens College (CUNY), graduating in 2011. During his time in graduate school, he co-founded Playsmiths, a playwrights’ lab in which holds weekly readings of writers’ work and provides them with feedback. In school, Jonathan studied with playwrights Richard Schotter and Tina Howe. Howe nominated Jonathan’s play Molding Plastic for the Rita and Burton Goldberg Award and the Irving Zarkower Award for best new play. In 2012, Jonathan’s play Chain Reaction, a two-act comedy about the building of the atomic bomb, was produced in the NY International Fringe Festival. Since then, Jonathan has received commissions from the Abingdon Theatre Company and Truant Arts for the creation of new work. These commissions have resulted in two well-received plays: Shepherd (a piece about the bond between military dogs and their human partners) and Teeth (about a woman, born without a mouth, who finds her voice). His play Breaking/Orbit was performed at the 2013 Pop Culture Association Conference in Washington, D.C. and the 2013 Last Frontier Theatre Conference in Valdez, Alaska. He is a member of Mission to (dit)Mars, a Queens-based writers’ collective that commissions new plays from its members each season.  Jonathan created Duck, a full-length animal allegory about the nature of abuse, culture, and individuality.  This year Jonathan was selected to participate in the Ingram New Works Playwrights with the Nashville Repertory Theater of which he wrote his newest play We See What Happen.  He is a huge geek: a lover of action figures and comic books, and always finding ways of incorporating those things into his theatre. He is a proud member of the Dramatists’ Guild.  Beyond the stage, Jonathan co-programs Page 23, an academic literary conference centered on comics and pop culture that operates under Denver Comic Con. He is currently editing a collection of scholarly essays on action figures, which will be out late next year. Jonathan hides out at Queensborough Community College, where he teaches English. He also speaks Klingon.

The History and Future of the AMERICAN THEATER GROUP

The beginnings of the American Theater Group (ATG) grew out of the desire to promote American culture through theater.  In 2013, as current President of the Association Americans In Alsace (AIA),  a call was put out to like minded individuals interested in theater.   It was from this group of volunteers that the  ATG created its first show Annie Jr.

Annie Jr  was a great success and today holds the number one position when searched on Google.  It has over one hundred thousand hits on YouTube ( ).

In 2014 the ATG produced its second show Seussical Jr  with five performances to over seven hundred spectators ( ) .

The ATG will be forever grateful to the association Americans In Alsace for its support and financial backing for the first two shows.

This year (2015) the Board of Americans In Alsace including myself as current President voted to  financially back one more ATG show.  The upcoming show is The Baker’s Daughter and is an original commissioned work by Christopher Bradley.   The Baker’s Daughter presented by the American Theater Group and will not only be sponsored by the AIA but will be produced by the newly created PEACE Productions Agency.  PEACE is an acronym for Promoting Education, Arts, Culture & Entertainment.  It is the objective of PEACE Productions to support future theater works by the ATG and to work with all people interested in promoting peace through education, arts, culture and entertainment.
